Happy Birthday, Mari!

On Saturday, we celebrated Mari's first birthday with family and a cookout.  Mari did not like the cake, much to my disappointment.  After getting both hands quite full of frosting and cake, she simply flailed her arms about, throwing cake on the wall and floor and looking rather distressed.  However, I'm happy to report that the rest of the party went well and we all enjoyed ourselves. In particular, I loved seeing her in the beautiful hanbok from her wonderful foster mom and family.  Happy Birthday, Mari Jinah!  We love you!!

I was so hoping she would pick the Center for Biostatistics pen first, but she ultimately chose the thread.

Happy July 4th!

On Friday evening, Christian fell down hard while running down the hall.  Although we didn't think anything was seriously wrong initially and continued on with our normal bedtime routine, Christian woke up crying after 10pm and couldn't put any weight on his left leg.  Jeff took him to the emergency room and learned that Christian's ankle was broken!  Yikes!  So the poor guy is now in a temporary cast and we are hoping to get in to see the orthopedic specialist tomorrow.  The ER doctor indicated that we should see the specialist since Christian fractured his growth plate.  Anyway, having Christian unhappy, in pain, and essentially immobile has just upped the level of difficulty of our daily existence considerably. The less said about this the better :-)   On the flip side, Mari is adjusting nicely and we're making some progress on the nap front.

Today, our neighbors hosted a wonderful brunch party and then we all enjoyed our annual community July 4th parade.  For the kids, the parade is basically a huge candy scavenging exercise.  Christian  unfortunately wasn't able to collect any candy himself due to his cast, but the wonderful, wonderful kids all helped him out and gathered candy for him all throughout the parade.  Thanks to everyone, Christian had a great time even though he couldn't run and move like normal.  (In addition, he made out like a bandit with the candy!)

So cute!!!

Basking in the sympathy and attention of all of the beautiful young ladies in the area :-)

It's good to be popular

The theme of this year's parade was "Christmas in July"
